Canada fires drive thousands more out of their homes

Canada fires drive thousands more out of their homesThousands of people fled their homes in western Canada over the weekend as strong winds fanned forest fires that have ravaged British Columbia province for more than a week. The inferno's progress prompted authorities to take new emergency measures, ordering the evacuation of 24,000 people in the region including the town of Williams Lake which is home to some 11,000 people, reported public broadcaster CBC. The province's transport minister, Todd Stone, told a news conference Sunday that between 36,000 and 37,000 people have so far been forced from their homes since the wild fires sparked by hot dry weather prompted a state of emergency to be declared on July 7.

South Korea's new government proposes military talks with North Korea

South Korea's new government proposes military talks with North KoreaBy Christine Kim SEOUL (Reuters) - South Korea on Monday proposed military talks with North Korea, the first formal overture to Pyongyang by the government of President Moon Jae-in, and said the two sides should discuss ways to avoid hostile acts near the heavily militarized border. There was no immediate response by the North to the proposal for talks later this week. The two sides technically remain at war but Moon, who came to power in May, has pledged to engage the North in dialogue as well as bring pressure to impede its nuclear and missile programs.

Delta hits back on Twitter at Ann Coulter, who claims she was kicked out of her seat

Delta hits back on Twitter at Ann Coulter, who claims she was kicked out of her seatAnother day, another airline-related dust-up. This time it's conservative commentator Ann Coulter, who called Delta the "worst airline in America" for moving her out of her "extra room seat" she had booked. SEE ALSO: American Airlines delayed a flight because the plane smelled like pee "Hey Delta, you mind telling me why it was an 'emergency' to move someone else into the seat I had carefully chosen in advance and booked?" Coulter tweeted on Saturday. Just when you think it's safe to fly them again, the worst airline in America is STILL: @Delta — Ann Coulter (@AnnCoulter) July 15, 2017 When Coulter allegedly asked why she was moved, a flight attendant apparently responded with "I don't know." "Why are you taking me out of the extra room seat I specifically booked, @Delta?' Flight attendant: "I don't know.” pic.twitter.com/a0M1faZXMu — Ann Coulter (@AnnCoulter) July 15, 2017 "Suckiest Delta moved me from my PRE-BOOKED SEAT & gave it to some woman, not elderly, child, or sick. I have pictures so don't lie, Delta!" she tweeted again. Coulter also posted a picture of the passenger alleged to have taken her seat. Surprisingly, people commiserated with Coulter's predicament. I have never felt more solidarity with @AnnCoulter than I do right now. — Jon Levine (@LevineJonathan) July 16, 2017 Two weeks ago I flew Delta, and they told me I "was rude" for expecting customer service at their terminal, so I feel @AnnCoulter pain — Mitchell Sunderland (@mitchsunderland) July 16, 2017 Then Coulter took aim at the "dachshund-legged" passenger who took allegedly took her seat, and Delta staff who she likened to "stasi" policemen. Suck-ass @Delta spends all this $$$ on beautiful aircraft & then hire Nurse Ratchets as flight attendants & gate agents. — Ann Coulter (@AnnCoulter) July 16, 2017 Airline crew training at @Delta: Replicate Stanley Milgram's prison experiment at Yale, inducing normal ppl to brutally torture fellow man. — Ann Coulter (@AnnCoulter) July 16, 2017 Hey @Delta, if it was so important for the dachshund-legged woman to take my seat, she should have BOOKED THE SEAT IN ADVANCE. Like I did. — Ann Coulter (@AnnCoulter) July 16, 2017 Coulter also accused Delta of having non-working Wi-Fi, "probably to prevent passengers from tweeting from the plane about how they're being treated." Delta responded via Twitter on Sunday, apologizing for Coulter not receiving her pre-booked seat she paid for and offering a refund. But the airline wasn't down with her insults. @AnnCoulter We're sorry you did not receive the preferred seat you paid for and will refund your $30. (cont.) — Delta (@Delta) July 16, 2017 @AnnCoulter Additionally, your insults about our other customers and employees are unacceptable and unnecessary. — Delta (@Delta) July 16, 2017 Hours after hitting back on Twitter, Delta issued a statement online and said it was "disappointed" Coulter publicly attacked "employees and other customers by posting derogatory and slanderous comments and photos in social media."  "Her actions are unnecessary and unacceptable," the statement added. "Each of our employees is charged with treating each other as well as our customers with dignity and respect. And we hold each other accountable when that does not happen." Delta said Coulter originally booked seat 15F in the exit row, but then changed to seat 15D — an aisle seat — within 24 hours of departure. The airline said it "inadvertently" moved Coulter to 15A, a window seat, to accommodate several passengers with seating requests. The flight's crew reported that despite initial confusion with the seats, all customers complied with the changes and there were no problems or concerns escalated.  Furthermore, Delta said it tried to contact Coulter when she first complained, as indicated on the airline's Twitter account, but did not receive a response until Sunday evening. @AnnCoulter Hey, Ann! I'm very sorry you had to change your seat on board today! I would like to look into this further. — Delta (@Delta) July 15, 2017 @AnnCoulter Can you please follow and share your conf. # via DM. *HJB https://t.co/6iDGBJAc2m — Delta (@Delta) July 16, 2017 Yet more than 24 hours after the first tweet, Coulter was still adamant on making a (very public) point. No one would think that 28 hours (& counting) for an explanation is due to @Delta's incompetence. @Delta employees MUCH too talented! https://t.co/euJP9GFZa1 — Ann Coulter (@AnnCoulter) July 16, 2017 UPDATE: July 17, 2017, 12:34 p.m. AEST Added a statement from Delta. WATCH: Pickpockets beware! This smart wallet will take a photo if stolen
